Plant Envy

When it comes to plants we all have a Pinterest picture but struggle with a practical plan of how to correctly implement our vision as we are dealing with living decor.

Here are some of my personal tips & tricks of the trade to turn your plant envy into plant joy.

Firstly, which plants are the easiest to keep alive?

  1. Snake plant (Dracaena trifasciata) en.wikipedia.org/…ki/Dracaena_trifasciata
  2. Peace lilly (Spathiphyllum Wallisii) en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spathiphyllum
  3. Splitleaf Philodendron (Monstera Deliciosa) en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monstera_deliciosa
  4. Lacy tree Philodendron (Philodendron Selloum) en.wikipedia.org/…/Thaumatophyllum_bipinnatifidum

I have successfully kept these plants alive in my home for 3 years, I water them every second week and they live indoors with natural light.

Secondly, how to display your plants?

Most plants are bought in a plastic pot from the nursery. Depending on the size you want your plant to grow can be relative to the size of pot you choose. All the plants mentioned above are hardy and easy to repot as they grow.

If you would like a good looking and quality pot, use a ceramic or cement pot. Otherwise place your plastic pot in a plant basket.

For hanging plants, use plant hangers to suspend your plants from hooks in ceiling beams or I like a wall mount, either a shelf bracket or a curtain rod hook.

Thirdly, look at your plants as art and find them a permanent place!

For example at the end of a passage with a blank wall, I would place a Snake plant in cement pot in the corner on a small table to provide height.  Then in the opposite corner suspend a hanging plant to drape down towards the floor. Finally to finish off with a plant in a basket on the floor,I recommend a fuller plant such as a Peace Lilly or Delicious monster plant.

For the hanging plants I recommend browsing through the range of artificial plants as they are lightweight and don’t require watering.
