Bento Bag

I wanted to create a promotional bag with samples of fabrics and wax melts for a sensory introduction to Hooga Homes.

To avoid waste, the idea of a bag that was functional and attractive appealed to me. The Japanese simplistic design behind origami is the foundation of the Bento bag.

I used cotton fabric which I dyed with turmeric, to create these fun shades of yellow that pop for a promotion bag.

How to make your Bento bag?

Start by cutting your fabric into a rectangle 26cm width and 77cm length. Hem the edges all round.   Fold  down the left corner and fold up the right corner dividing the fabric into three pieces. You should have two triangles and one square in the middle.

Then comes the tricky part: take the right corner and fold down towards the left centre fold, leaving you with 2 points and one large triangle and a small one.

Then pin the seams together on both sides and stitch for the base of your bag, you can turn your bag inside out for the finished product.

How to finish your Bento bag

I finished my bag with a denim handle that fits nicely over ones shoulder.

You could add rope or even knot the corners as alternative options.

Perfect for a grocery or beach bag!
